just took the test. ENFJ with a "moderately expressed" E... then i pulled out my trusty pocket jung. he's pretty positive on ENFJ's in genl but says we can occasionally offend with insightful but insensitive spontaneous comments... anybody else have this experience?

ENFJs and relationships

I am very intrigued with MBTI types and relationship compatibility. I took the test on similarminds and found that I am an ENFJ, which I pretty much suspected.

Extroverted (E) 58.82%
Intuitive (N) 68.75%
Feeling (F) 66.67%
Judging (J) 80%

and my boyfriend took the test and found that he was an ISTJ (dont' have his stats). Although these types are opposites, we get along well and find a balance, in part because we're both strong Js. And because he's very cool-headed and rational, he's not offended by some of my more opionated statements.

I've found in the past that as an N I don't do well with the S types. Big clash in communication styles and values there. And I've noticed that men who are very introverted get intimidated when I act very extraverted. I've had to learn to tone things down a bit.

How about the rest of you? What types do you get along best with?

Temperament v.s. Character

Hi guys,
I'm an ENFP. In regards to kitty being with her boyfriend, and the whole fighting thing, I believe it doesn't matter what personality type the person is. Any two presonalities can be compatible. I'm finding that it might have been better if people with extensive knowledge into personality didn't know about "personality" in the first place. I watch people who aren't really informed much about thier personality type, and how is it that "P's" can actually make descisions when needed. I'm finding that people who are well informed about their personality, let's say being a "J" will be 10x more critical than the one who doesn't. Why? Because we tend to use our personality as a scapegoat for the actions we take. " This is who I am and this is what I'm going to do". That's immaturity. There are two aspects to personality There is one aspect that plays into personality called character. Character is the influence around us that builds our personality to either a negative or positive view. In other words "you become who you hang around". I've learned, over time to grow up and not to lean on my P in lack of descision making. I started hanging around more J's and learned how to better my character in focus. ENFP is my ingrained born "Temperament" from my birth. It's me and always will be. However I do not limit myself to my temperament. I chose to mature, being more compatible with others. I'm not saying it was easy. With the J's and T's, we would fight sometimes moreso than not. But eventually I made the choice to suck it up and learned how to come to a middle ground. Personality types were made so we could excel in our strengths and grow in our weaknesses. Not to rip others apart, justifying that "I'm an ISTJ, so screw you ENFP!". Or to go through life creating more mistakes than making more solutions. But to get along with others and help each other out, because in this world we are all we've got. I hope this helped inform a little about personality, and what it's intentions are.

parents

I am 20 and am tired of being controlled and having to deal with repeated attempts of being manipulated by my ignorant parents with their heads up their asses. I feel like they treat me like a german shepard and view me as non intelligent and unconfident but this is a resuly of them controlling me and bringing me down. My entj father and isfp mother have both had tough lives and its almost as if they take great pleasure in passing their misery onto me. I dont feel like this is a burden i should have to cary considering i have my own lifetime of pain and emotional damage.

In a seemingly open conversation with my isfp mother i decided to tell her that i was going on a date the following night.. i told her that her name was claire and she replied simply by saying in a very condescending and elitist tone "the black girl!???" (i am white) When i said yes she told me that her generation would view this very poorly. I later told her that this is the year 2007 and that her generation was sick and ignorant and that she needs to get her head out of her ass!!! But the point is that when she said that she crushed me on the inside because i thought she was certainly better and more understand to make that kind of judgement on her son. I felt hurt and ashamed because nothing is ever good enough for my parents ever. My older sister was incredibly overachieving and never recieved any praise from my father for her good grades ever. The two have them have also done a great deal of emotional damage to them and they have recovered greatly because they are incredibly strong.

They always find a self righteous way to bring things to agree with their point of view than explain why they are right and i am wrong, rather than trying to empathesize and work through the issue together they bark orders which they demand being followed. When there is such a dispute my father will use something and hold it over my head to control me and put me in line such as threating to kick me out of the house. He has at times dominated to so much in my life that he reduced me to nothing. I would like to here his side of the story if we were on a level playing field. I believe that i would have a hard time taking it easy on the man.

I know i am not a perfect human and i have also made bad decisions in my past. But i feel like a deserve to be treated better most of the time.

I am not feeling sorry for myself because i learned along time ago that is a waste of time. But this is tiresome and i am sick and tired of them stomping on my dreams and making me feel like i am nothing and a completely terrible human being (which they are probably unconcious of and is merely a side effect of their own incomplete lives and emotional damage) I have higher aspirations for myself and aim to live a much more fulfilling life than what i have been presented with.

Thank you for taking the time to read this my fellow enfjs!!! Please write back if you have anything to say.

Hierarchy of conditions for perfect matches

There is a lot of different information out there regarding romantic compatibility between types. Among others, I know of the following theories of perfect matches:

- Opposites attract (INTJ + ESFP, ISTP + ENFJ etc.)

- Keirsey: Opposites attract, but N or S must be the same (INTJ + ENFP, ISTP + ESFJ etc.)

- Personalitypage: The dominant function must be shared, but oppositely directed (INTJ with Introverted Intuition + ENFP _or_ ENTP since both have Extraverted Intuition, ISTP with Introverted Thinking + ESTJ _or_ ENTJ since both have Extraverted Thinking)

Based on my own observations, I believe that Keirsey has it right when he insists that N or S should be the same. I also believe that Personalitypage is correct in emphasizing the importance of having the same dominant function. Finally, I believe that, as long as the basic language (N or S) and interest (dominant function) are the same, opposites do indeed attract and complement one another.

I therefore propose the following hierarchy of relationship matches:

---

Condition 1: The dominant function must be the same, but oppositely directed.
Condition 2: The perceiving function (N or S) must be the same.

If possible once these conditions are met, the judging function (T or F) should be different.

---

This leads to the following eight optimal matches:

INTJ-ENFP (Dominant function: Intuition, T and F opposite)
ENTP-INFJ (Dominant function: Intuition, T and F opposite)
ISTJ-ESFP (Dominant function: Sensing, T and F opposite)
ESTP-ISFJ (Dominant function: Sensing, T and F opposite)
INTP-ENTJ (Dominant function: Thinking)
ISTP-ESTJ (Dominant function: Thinking)
ENFJ-INFP (Dominant function: Feeling)
ESFJ-ISFP (Dominant function: Feeling)

---

I'd love to hear any thoughtful comments.

Also, if anyone is aware of a source who has already published this hierarchy, please let me know.

Yours,
Tanja (INTJ)

I think I am, I think I am

but I am not sure.

Here's my problem... It isn't the E or the N or the J, but the F. Sometimes, I am a big heart, but other times I am a big brain. Sometimes, I am more comfortable being that big brain, but I feel I am actually this big heart.

Of course, this DOES translate into the... whatever my life has become as of late... this schism between head and heart, but... when I read about ENFJ's, I feel I am reading about myself -- the self most people don't see, the self people see only in my closest relationships (which are all that I have at the moment at my own devising), the self at what I feel is it's most authentic.

But I do share things with ENTJ's... like the mind that won't shut up or slow down and runs circles around other people. However, I do repress a lot of what I think out of concern for other people -- they might not be able to take it or be ready and so I wait until it is ready to be said -- I trust myself not to forget. I do tend to think I know what the people around me need and I do hate being alone and tend to expend a lot of energy taking care of the people around me (and yes, to the detriment of my own health... a year ago, I found myself in crisis).

It's the thinking thing... does feeling mean you don't think? How does that work out anyway?

I am not as goal-oriented as ENTJs seem to be... I have a plan that I then worry and fret won't work because I am not certain I am doing enough because I am communicating with folks on-line, making sure of my long-distance friendships, etc.

So, I guess I am supposed to get out (hee!), but from where I was certain, I feel a degree of... what if...and I'd like some help, if you good folks don't mind.

Heart,
Please Understand Me II

A highly recommended book offering invaluable insight for Idealist Teachers (ENFJ's) and all other types! -M

Please Understand Me II: Temperament Character Intelligence
by David Keirsey, Ray Choiniere (Foreword by)

From the Publisher
For the past twenty years Keirsey has continued to investigate personality differences — to refine his theory of the four temperaments and to define the facets of character that distinguish one from another. His findings form the basis of Please Understand Me II, an updated and greatly expanded edition of the book, far more comprehensive and coherent than the original, and yet with much of the same easy accessibility. One major addition is Keirsey's view of how the temperaments differ in the intelligent roles they are most likely to develop. Each of us, he says, has four kinds of intelligence — tactical, logistical, diplomatic, strategic — though one of the four interests us far more than the others, and thus gets far more practice than the rest. Like four suits in a hand of cards, we each have a long suit and a short suit in what interests us and what we do well, and fortunate indeed are those whose work matches their skills. As in the original book, Please Understand Me II begins with The Keirsey Temperament Sorter, the most used personality inventory in the world. But also included is The Keirsey Four-Types Sorter, a new short questionnaire that identifies one's basic temperament and then ranks one's second, third, and fourth choices. Share this new sorter with friends and family, and get set for a lively and fascinating discussion of personal styles.

I just joined this tribe, found it through random searching, connected to one of the other tribes. Thought I would introduce myself and say 'Hi and Hello.'

I'm Meredith, living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I've been fascinated by personality tests all my life, and have taken TONS of them, but I was first "pinned" down as an ENFJ in high school. I've never found any of the descriptions to be lacking. ~smile~

Not sure what else to say, but thanks for having the tribe out there, and I hope everyone's week starts out on the right foot.

~smile~

I give nods to this tribe. I just did the online MB today. I'm like, whoa. I just got told. Very good.

So what do others do for kicks? I moderate RBS.tribe.net. We have an event coming up next month for any play-with-your-brain types interested in meeting other playful types.

And I would love to attend some sort of ENJF function, just to see what happens...

Gent, a enfj tribe member in good standing, wrote: 'the enfj tribe is a lonely, lonely tribe' BACK IN FEBRUARY! Goodness, don't let the enjf tribe die. Wanna shake things up? Invite some intps over. Remember opposites attract. It works in magnetism, elecetricity, and love. Myers/Briggs even noted that oppostites attract.
PS - You can help me out. I could use some friends in the tribe.net thing. Having 0 friends is ...well...sad.
